Kannur, June 19: Chand Pasha, who excelled in Hindustani music for the past 45 years and scored music for nearly 1500 songs, particularly the 'Mappila Pattu' (Muslim folk songs), has died at Kuthuparamba, 25 km from here, in Kerala. The 63-year-old pasha died late last night at a private hospital where he was admitted following chest pain, family sources said. He is survived by wife.
Born in a family well known for its Kawali music traditions, pasha migrated from Hyderabad to Kannur years ago and was the president of north Kerala Mappila Arts Study Centre.
Recipient of several awards, including the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy award and the best music director award by the Tamil Nadu government, pasha had been working as music director of a Kuthuparamba-based arts theatre for the past 17 years.
