Madurai, June 02: DMK leader M K Azhagiri, an accused in the murder of former Tamil Nadu minister T Kiruttinan, was today remanded to two-days police custody by a court here. Judicial Magistrate Vanitha, while turning down the demand for his five-day police custody passed the order after assistant public prosecutor Rajini argued that police custody was essential to know about the involvement of some others in the murder. Azhagiri, who was brought to the Madurai court from Tiruchirappalli, told the Judicial Magistrate that the plea should not be allowed as he feared that he would be "ill-treated" and tortured by the police. His advocates Ambrose, Palanichamy and Mohankumar however argued that they should be allowed to meet Azhagiri, even if he was granted police custody. They said police has already interrogated Azhagiri and there was no need for fresh enquiry nor was there anything new in the case.
Earlier, there was commotion in the court as the DMK advocates objected to the prosecutor arguing the case instead of the concerned Assistant Public Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, the magistrate extended the remand of another accused in the case Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait for 15-days.
