Munich, Nov 27: The 34 year-old German Michael Schumacher also met astronaut Charles Duke to symbolise the company's unique connection with NASA's space exploration programme.
The American astronaut, who took part in Apollo 16 mission, showed Schumacher an exhibition devoted to space which included a piece of moonrock. "Well, it's over 31 years now that I was on the moon and it seems like yesterday," Duke said.
Omega produced the 'Speedmaster or 'Moon Watch', the only watch to have been on the moon, together with the lunar vehicle. Both equipments had to pass NASA's rigorous tests for exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity and noise. "We drove the car which revolutionised lunar exploration. We were able to go five, six kilometres away. And as I stood on the moon and looked up, I could see a beautiful earth in the sky. Every time I looked up, I say we are really a long way from home," the former astronaut added.
