New Delhi, July 12: Leading storage battery maker Exide Industries on Friday said its net profit surged by 78 per cent to Rs 13.90 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2003. Gross sales grew by over 18 per cent to Rs 291.30 crore while operating profits went up by 14.8 per cent, a company release said.

The automotive battery division recorded sales of Rs 146.71 crore, a 18 per cent rise during the April-June quarter over the year-ago period.
Exide said it has further consolidated its leadership position in the automotive battery segment by recording an over 20 per cent growth in sales.
Both the Exide and SF brands showed a 17 and 15 per cent growth in the two-wheeler retail segment. Bureau Report
