Chennai, Sept 06: Karnataka government's sudden desire for an emergency meeting of the Cauvery monitoring committee on September seven and that of the Cauvery river authority, 'seems very suspicious', and Tamil Nadu government will attend the meeting 'under protest', chief minister Jayalalithaa said here today.
In a semi-official letter to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, Jayalalithaa said her government had decided to attend the monitoring committee meeting under protest against the 'shabby treatment' meted out to Tamil Nadu and the 'suspicious motives' of the Indian government in 'hastily convening' the meeting, thereby 'blatantly siding with Karnataka'.
"This is especially so in view of the fact that during the last CRA meeting on august 27, Karnataka Chief Minister kept insisting that he was not ready to discuss the issue of pro-rata distress sharing and that any discussion on release of waters to Tamil Nadu could be held only after the end of September, she pointed out.
