Kanpur, May 02: Congress star campaigner Rahul Gandhi today accused BJP of dividing the society and said only Congress can provide stability.
Talking to reporters here on the sidelines of his roadshow, when asked to comment on the future of a third front, he said, “There are only two forces in Indian politics-one makes people fight and the other unites them."
Charging BJP with dividing the society on communal lines since independence, Rahul said that party was seeking votes from the minority community. Even some time back, 3,000 minorities have been killed, he said in an apparent reference to Gujarat riots.
"We will continue to fight them (communal forces). We have to fight those who have been disintegrating the country," he said, adding, "I will be here even if we do not get a single seat." When asked to comment on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's remarks that politics was not a child's play, a reference to him and his sister Priyanka, he said "I do not want to give any reaction. I appreciate the Prime Minister's comment. I appreciate that he thinks we are 'Baccha (child)', and I give him my respects".
Rahul, who is contesting from Amethi LS seat, received a tumultuous welcome as he arrived at the IIT campus in Kanpur to campaign for party nominees here.
Earlier in Farrukhabad, while addressing people during his roadshow for party nominee Louis Khursheed, Rahul said Congress was the only party, which could provide a stable government at the Centre.
Development of the state had come to a standstill during the successive non-Congress regimes, the Congress' heir apparent said, asserting that only his party could provide stability.
A huge crowd greeted Rahul throughout the 35 km route between Kayamganj and Farrukhabad where he was showered with flowers by enthusiastic supporters.
The crowd forced Rahul to make unscheduled stops at several places and shook hands with him. He freely mingled with the people and also inquired about their problems.
During over three hour roadshow, Rahul also highlighted the "failures" of the NDA government.
Rahul also visited Kalyanpur assembly segment of Bilhaur parliamentary constituency besides the five Kanpur City assembly constituencies of Arya Nagar, Sisamau (reserved), Generalganj, Govindnagar and Cantonment.
