Bangalore, Oct 14: The Karnataka government would submit a memorandum to the Centre seeking Rs 22.70 crore for taking up flood relief operations in three coastal districts, minister for revenue, Mallikarjun Nagappa, said today. He told reporters here that a six-member official team, headed by Union Home Ministry joint secretary, P K Jalal, would pay a three-day visit to the flood affected areas of Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi from October 20.

The team would have consultations with officials including the drought monitoring committee on October 22 and later submit its report to the Centre, he said.
Nagappa said a team of ministers would visit Delhi by this month end to request the Centre to sanction funds and foodgrains to tackle drought as 142 taluks continued to reel under scarcity conditions.

He said that the state government had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh to Bidar and Rs 75 lakh each to Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts which suffered damage owing to heavy rains. Torrential rains had claimed eight lives so far and the government had paid compensation to their families, he said.
