Kochi, May 28: Kerala State Private Bus Operators Federation will today hold a dharna in front of the transport commissioners office at Thiruvananthapuram to protest against the various circulars from the department that were affecting the private bus service sector. The Federation president Khalid Mundappally said the recent circular to implement speed controlling machines in buses from September 1 was not practical. Speed control machines with ISI mark was not available in the country, besides no other states in India had implemented it, he said.
He said the decision that buses, which had been operating for 15 years, should be replaced would adversely affect the bus owners who had brought buses by availing loans. Besides, other notifications including installing fire extinguishers in the buses, fixing emergency doors and reducing the height of the foot-board, would badly affect the bus owners, he said. The federation would also submit a memorandum to the chief minister urging him to probe the circulars of transport commissioner.
The federation will hold another dharna in front of RTO offices in district headquarters on May 31. Bureau Report
