Cuddalore, Sept 05: Power generation from the second thermal power station at Neyveli Lignite Corporation was affected today after the conveyor belt system, supplying raw material to the seven boilers, was damaged in a fire on September 4. Consequently, power distribution to all the southern states was totally affected. The total estimated loss was around Rs two crore, deputy general manager of the second thermal power station L Narayanan told reporters here.
Meanwhile, general secretary of NLC-registered LPF trade union T Gopalan alleged that lack of proper maintenance had resulted in the fire. They did not have the latest fire fighting equipment and vehicles needed to tackle the blaze, he added. Bureau Report
