New Delhi, Jan 16: A day-long meeting of CLP leaders and PCC chiefs is being held here today to discuss strategy for the coming Lok Sabha polls as also the issues for party`s manifesto. The meeting, presided over by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, is also being attended by the AICC general secretaries and senior party leaders Salman Khurshid, Mani Shanker Aiyer and Ramesh Chennithala, who are special invitees in congress working committee and are looking after certain states.
The exercise is part of Gandhi`s efforts to seek opinion of party members in finalising the strategy for the polls, party sources said.
Gandhi might also ascertain views of CLP leaders and PCC presidents on the crucial issue of electoral tie-ups with regional or state-level like-minded parties, they said.
Gandhi had earlier convened a meeting of party`s working committee to discuss the electoral strategy and it authorised her to go-ahead in efforts to forge electoral alliances with like-minded secular parties to take on BJP at the hustings.
She also interacted with party`s youth wing leaders from across the country and ascertained views on several issues, the sources said.
Gandhi is expected to meet leaders of other frontal organisations - Mahila Congress, Sewa Dal and its student wing to galvanise the party at the grass-root level for the polls, they said. Bureau Report
