Ballia, Mar 23: Voicing concern over increasing influence of multi-national companies on Indian economy Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said here today the nation's sovereignty would be in danger if this trend continued. "People should be aware of their rights and should not waiver from their duties," said the vice-president while laying the foundation stone of a museum in Basantpur. Comparing MNCs with East India Company, Shekhawat said, "Initially East India Company came to India as a trading unit." "Slowly it took control over India. Similarly, the MNCs could threaten the economic sovereignty of India," he added. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Digvijay Singh, Commerce Minister Rajiv Pratrap Rudi were also present on the occasion.
