Banglore, Feb 11: The Karnataka BJP has taken into its fold former Sub-Inspector of Police Bomb Girish Mattannanavar, who had recently planted crude bombs in the MLAs' hostel to protest against corruption. Girish, named the living Bhagat Singh for his crusade against corruption, on Tuesday joined the BJP. Hoping to cash in on his iconic status among the youth, state BJP chief Ananth Kumar presented Girish as the youth leader of his party. The former sub-inspector said that he decided to join the BJP as it was not possible for him to carry on the crusade against corruption single-handedly and the party would provide him the suitable forum. BJP sources said the former police officer, a native of Dharwad, might be fielded from Dharwad district in the coming elections. The 26-year-old police officer with a Masters degree in Genetic Engineering had confessed to planting the bombs at the toilet of the Legislators Home in Bangalore in November 2003. He had maintained that his intention was not to harm anyone, but to make a statement against corrupt politicians and bureaucracy.
