In stepped-up anti-militancy operations, security personnel shot dead militants, including ten who tried to sneak into Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir from across the border. A group of 15 militants belonging to Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Tehreek-e-Jehadi Islami and Hizbul Mujahideen tried to infiltrate into India in loren area of Poonch district in Jammu region early Sunday when troops opened fire killing ten of them and arrested five others, official sources said.
This was the second single major operation to foil infiltration bid in three days. The army shot dead 20 militants who tried to cross over into India under Pakistani fire cover on Friday.
A jawan was killed in an encounter with militants at village Niram in Udhampur district on Saturday night. A civilian was also killed in the shootout, the sources said. The ultras fired at security forces at Taranah Nallah near Dayalechok in Kathua district and in the retaliatory action, one militant was killed. Bureau Report
