Coimbatore, Oct 16: Vehicular traffic on the Sathyamangalam-Mysore route, which had been paralysed on account of farmers' agitation over the Cauvery water issue, resumed this morning. After farmers' committee suspended its agitation in Mandya, senior police and transport officials of erode in Tamil Nadu and Chamarajnagar district in Karnataka held a meeting with transport owners at Hasanoor last night for resumption of services between the states, police sources from Erode told reporters here.
Lorry services have been suspended on the route for nearly one month resulting in heavy losses to lorry owners, besides affecting trade worth crores of rupees, particularly in agricultural sector, the sources said.
Though some lorry and private buses started plying last night, full-fledged services resumed only this morning following the talks in which Erode SP Shailesh Kumar Yadav and Chamrajnagar SP Hari Shekar among others, participated.
The meeting also decided to form special teams to keep vigil on sensitive areas along the route, they said.
Depending on the situation, both the states were likely to operate their transport corporation buses in a couple of days, the sources added. Bureau Report
