New Delhi, Aug 24: He’s made three definitive gangland films — Shiva, Satya and Company. But Ram Gopal Varma refuses to be slotted. The genre-bender is now working on a supernatural thriller, Bhoot. As the rumour mill once again hots up with tales of Bollywood and the bhais, Varma discusses the state of the industry. What do you feel about the renewed talk of the underworld threat to the film industry?

Too much is being made of this factor. People from the outside would find the situation far more appalling than it actually is. I truly believe Sanjay Dutt is like a child pretending to be Daku Mangal Singh in a huge dacoit drama. It’s like a role that has become too big for him to handle. His supposed conversations with the underworld are an extension of the same impulse. Obviously Sanjay Dutt being a celebrity, these guys would want to interact with him. Once the process of conversation starts, you get sucked into it.
