At least 20 people were killed on Saturday in a road accident in Kashmir, a police spokesman said.
The victims were travelling in a passenger bus which fell into a gorge when it failed to make a sharp turn on a hill at Saderkote, near Sumbhal township, 40 km north of Srinagar.
"Preliminary reports suggest that at least 20 people died on the spot," a police spokesman said, adding "many others were injured."
Two days of rain and snow have left roads slippery across Kashmir. The spokesman said that 18 bodies had so far been recovered from the gorge. The injured were taken to the district hospital at Baramulla or to Srinagar.
Police and paramilitary forces were at the scene but heavy snow impeded the rescue operation. Bureau Report
