Kolkata, Oct 22: The West Bengal health authorities suffered a blow today when parents of a stillborn baby lodged a complaint that the baby went missing from a state-run hospital. Manjari Ghosh, a resident of Chitpur in north Kolkata, who was admitted to the maternity ward of the hospital, lodged an fir with the Chitpur police station alleging that her stillborn baby had gone missing from the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital since October 13. The family alleged in the fir that despite repeated pleas, Superintendent of the R G Kar Medical College Chandan Sen had not handed over the baby till date.
"On October 14, we were told that my baby was stillborn. The hospital staff also showed us the child. But when we asked for it, they said it would be handed over to us later," Ghosh told newspersons.
However, even after a number of requests, the baby was not handed over to the family, she alleged in her FIR.
Upon repeated enquiries, the family was told that the baby had gone missing from the hospital and authorities were searching for it.
When contacted, the hospital authorities refused to comment.
