'War and Peace' is based on Leo Tolstoy's 1869 novel of the same name, which describes how historical events, including the French invasion of Russia, affected a select five Russian families, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Paul Dano and 'Downton Abbey' actress Lily James will also star in the six-part drama, which will be distributed by both the Weinstein Company and BBC America.

Andrew Davies, who wrote 'Bridget Joness Diary', is penning the series. The series will be filmed in Russia, Lithuania, and Latvia beginning in January.
