Ayodhya, Oct 11: Tension is mounting in Ayodhya over Shiv Sena’s Ram Bhakt Sammelan. Prohibitory court orders and the imposition of Section 144 in the city has not stopped large groups of Shiv Sainiks trying to make their way into Ayodhya for the rally.
One such group was arrested in Barabanki this morning but another managed to reach close to the banks of the Saryu River.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Ayodhya in anticipation of violence, and 100 companies of para-military troops have been deployed in the city.
In a crackdown on the Shiv Sainiks yesterday, the police arrested Shiv Sena MPs Chandrakant Khere and Shivaji Mane, party's Uttar Pradesh unit chief Vijay Tiwari and over 80 supporters on their way from Lucknow to Ayodhya.
Meanwhile, more than 2,000 people have already left Ahmedabad to participate in VHP’s ‘Chalo Ayodhya’ programme scheduled for October 17.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahbad High Court has directed the state government to maintain the status quo at the disputed site in Ayodhya. This directive had been issued in view of the October 17 VHP programme.
