The 34-year-old R&B singer is added to the cast of the hit FOX series for season two to play Lucious Lyon's (Terrence Howard) mother in a flashback, reported Aceshowbiz. Rowland is the latest addition to the cast of "Empire" for season two, joining Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys and Marisa Tomei.

Rumours of the former Destiny's Child star's involvement in the drama series first sparked last month when a picture circulated on Twitter showing the singer hanging out with "Empire" screenwriters.

"Hey, @KELLYROWLAND! Thank you for spending some time with the #Empire writers!" the caption for the image read.

The new season of the Lee Daniels and Danny Strong-created series will premiere September 23 on FOX.
