Chennai, Feb 20: The Palkhivala Foundation, an institution to propagate the ideals and principles cherished by the eminent jurist, the late N A Palkivala, was launched here today. Announcing the launch of the foundation, its managing trustee and executive vice-president of Tata Consultancy Services, S Mahalingam, told a press conference here that the objective was to conduct one lecture every quarter, with eminent speakers from the government, industry and media, to speak on current subjects.
The foundation would also conduct research in fiscal laws, constitutional matters and award scholarships to deserving students, he said.
N Murali, joint managing director, 'The Hindu' and a member of the governing council of the foundation, said Palkhiwala and the people of Chennai had developed an affinity towards each other and the city was almost like a second home to him. The launch of the foundation was a fitting tribute to the late jurist, he said.
The foundation will organise a lecture by attorney general Soli Sorabjee here on February 22, titled 'Palkhivala and the Constitution of India.'
