Nandpur Kesho (Patiala), July 08: Enthused by rains, farmers from this tiny sleepy hamlet have taken time out from their busy sowing schedule to head for Amarnath, in order to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva.
These farmers are amongst the hundreds of devotees from
Patiala, Sirhind and Rajpura region.
Around 15 buses headed for Jammu to be there well in time on the eve of the month long annual pilgrimage. "So far, the beginning of the rain has been good, paddy sowing is going in line as per schedule and we will pray for the trend to continue so that paddy sowing goes as per schedule," local village leader Jagjit Singh told media here.
The ice 'lingam' in the holy cave at Amarnath symbolises perennial source of water for our crops, he said. "The Amarnath Yatra is a thanksgiving opportunity for us", he said adding "so, we decided to take the plunge."
A number of former devotees had already reached Patiala town from the adjoining villages in the wee hours to be there on time before the caravan rolled on.
