Given the success of Roma Downey and Mark Burnett's miniseries, while 'AD' was initially announced as an event series, it had been envisioned as a potentially continuing franchise.

In April, ahead of 'AD's' Easter debut, Burnett had said that writers already were working on scripts for Season two. That may now happen on another platform.

The story takes place immediately after the events of 'The Bible', beginning with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and continues with the first ten chapters of the Book of Acts.
