New Delhi, Dec 20: Hours after a parliamentary committee probing the alleged assault on JD (U) MP D P Yadav recommended revocation of his suspension, government tonight decided to reinstate Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police Manoj Kumar Lall in service. The decision to reinstate Lall came after Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi sent the recommendation of the 15-member house panel, headed by BJP MP V K Malhotra, to the home ministry, official sources said.
"Lall is being reinstated and the home ministry has carried out the necessary file work," the sources said.
The committee, which in its preliminary report had recommended Lall's suspension, today tabled its final report in the Lok Sabha saying that the suspension order be revoked.
The report said no adverse action should be taken against Lall on account of his present suspension but maintained that during public demonstrations, the organisers, police and government should be careful.
"Truth has prevailed. The system has not collapsed," a relieved Lall told reportres. "The committee has vindicated my stand. Its recommendation has restored the faith and confidence of police personnel and public in our system," he said.
In its report, the committee concluded after viewing the video cassettes and VCDs and considering the photographs of the incident and other material on record that "the police did not use excessive force during the demonstration".
Yadav had stated that on December nine, he and his supporters were assaulted when he was leading a procession towards parliament demanding permanent solution to perennial flood and drought problems in Bihar. Bureau Report
