Washington, Jan 08: Both US and Pakistani forces have been quietly conducting crossborder operations along the Afghanistan-Pakistan frontier, and there are Pakistani military officials even in Afghanistan's Bagram air base, the launch pad of US war on terror, a diplomat was quoted as saying. "There is nothing new about these hot pursuits...Both sides (US and Pakistan) have crossed the porous border in the past. In fact, there are Pakistani military officials even at Bagram air base near Kabul," the diplomat was quoted as saying by The Washington Times.
The issue of US forces crossing borders in hot pursuit of al-Qaeda and earstwhile Taliban elements has led to some angry exchanges between the Americans and Pakistanis recently.
The tempers soared after an American soldier was wounded by a Pakistani scout and US planes retaliated by dropping a 500-lb bomb killing two Pakistanis on the Pakistani side of the Afghan border.

If it is true that there are Pakistani military officials at Bagram air base, it is sure to come as a shock to the Afghan Government, analysts said.
Meanwhile, The New York Times said Pakistan's heated rhetoric against US hot pursuit of terrorists has put to question its credential as a frontline ally of US in its war on terror. Bureau Report
