Srinagar, Oct 26: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board today said any legislation to facilitate construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, as demanded by Sangh Parivar, would be "unconstitutional". "A legislation on Ram temple would be unconstitutional as it would amount to depriving a particular community of their religious rights," AIMPLB spokesman S Q R Illyas, who was here as part of the National Commission for Minorities Committee for Rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants told.

He said by raising such a demand, the Sangh Parivar and its allies virtually accepted defeat even before the high court had delivered a verdict on the issue. "They know that their case is weak and would be defeated in the court, leading them to call for legislation. If they claim that Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) findings support their claim, they should wait for the verdict," he said.

Illyas claimed that prominent historians of the country have raised objections to the ASI findings during the excavations at Ayodhya and "We have filed the same before the court." He said all political parties of the country including Bharatiya Janata Party have opposed the demand for legislation on the Ram temple.
