Mumbai, Nov 10: Shiv Sena-BJP led opposition in Maharashtra today met Governor Mohammed Fazal demanding a CBI probe into the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam and "immediate" removal of Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal for his "failure" to control corruption in the police force. The delegation, including leaders of opposition in the the state assembly and council- Narayan Rane and Nitin Gadkari respectively, said "it was shocking to learn that prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi had enjoyed all comforts in police custody" and blamed Bhujbal for failure to check corruption in the police force. The stamp paper scam was spread across eight states and hence it would be fit and proper to hand over the probe to CBI, the delegation said.
The opposition leaders said special investigating team was doing a good job in conducting the ongoing probe into the scam but it had its own limitations as its jurisdiction was confined to Maharashtra alone. Outside Raj Bhavan, Gadkari told reporters that he had met SIT chief S S Puri and submitted evidence to him about Telgi's associate handing over Rs 20 crore to a politician. He said he had demanded immediate arrest of this person.
Besides Rane and Gadkari, the delegation comprised Eknath Kharse, Bhai Girkar, Vinod Tawade and Raj Purohit of BJP and Madhukar Sarpotdar of Shiv Sena. Bureau Report
