Jaipur, Dec 01: Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Kumar Gehlot today attacked the NDA government at the Centre for its "unwillingness" to provide drought relief to the state with an eye to "create unrest in the Congress ruled states" and derive political mileage out of it.


"Because of elections in the Congress ruled states in 2003, the NDA government probably wanted to tighten its grip on assistance so that unrest is created and matters like drought and famine are politicised in the name of starvation deaths,” he told reporters here at a function marking the completion of four years of his government. "The Centre has allocated only 7 lakh tonnes of wheat in two phases but no cash from the PM's relief package of Rs 207 crore had landed in the state," he alleged.

Claiming that the state had utilized money under the calamity relief funds and diverted its other funds to meet the famine relief works on day-to-day basis, he said the state BJP seeking to reach out to the people, he assured that his government would rush to the help of any affected person of it was provided with information.
The Chief Minister said that he had alerted his government machinery as early as in august and launched famine relief works in 32 districts.

Contesting claims on starvation deaths in the state, he said, "It was surprising that only one member of a family died of starvation while others were living comfortably."
