New Delhi, May 28: In what could be one of the lowest price-points of high-end computing, Taiwan-based Via Technologies will launch Linux based Notebook computers at a cost of Rs 40,000 by July this year with one giga hertz capacity. "We will be launching laptops costing about Rs 40,000 on Linux platform with one giga hertz processor, 128 MB memory and 20 GB hard disk drive," by July, Ravi Pradhan, country manager, Via Technologies said at a Linux seminar.
The company has already finalised talks with distributors like eSYS, Jupiter and Priya for retailing the laptop, he said adding that Via is in talks with four other distributors.
Testing and dry runs on the laptop is currently going on.
The company has already launched a Linux-based PC in the price range of Rs 16,000 (inclusive of all taxes) with a capacity of 800 Mhz, 64 MB memory and 20 GB hard disk drive with a 15 inch monitor. Bureau Report
