India warned Pakistan that it would be forced to retaliate if the neighbouring country did not show restraint in unprovoked firing and stop causing damage to the border fence in Jammu. If Pakistan does not show restraint, India will have no option but to retaliate not only to the unprovoked firing but also more seriously to the Pakistani action to cause damage to the border fence in Jammu, said a statement issued by army authorities on Sunday night.

It said tension was building up on the Jammu border for the past few days due to Pakistani firing without any provocation on Indian forward posts.

BSF in most cases had showed restraint and not retaliated, the statement said, adding that Pakistan had taken recourse to damaging the border fence to increase tension on the border.
Pakistan had made eight attempts since last year to interfere with border fence construction activity and there was no reaction from the BSF, the statement said.

Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian positions on the night of April 20 prompting retaliation from the Indian side causing damage to the Pakistani post and injuries to the personnel manning it, the statement said.
