Oct 27: Padraig Harrington will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Telefonica Madrid Open on Sunday.

The Republic of Ireland golfer will start the last 18 holes a shot ahead of Australian Adam Scott and Dane Steen Tinning. On a Club de Campo course which has already witnessed two of his five European Tour victories, the Ryder Cup star fired a 66 to lie on a 16-under-par 197 after three rounds. However, it was far from plain sailing for the deliberate Irishman and he trailed Scott by three strokes after a bogey six at the long 14th.

Harrington then fought back with two birdies while the 22-year-old Scott finished with two bogeys.

The Australian's poor finish saw him drop back to second with Tinning, who equalled the lowest round of his tour career with a nine-birdie 62.

Harrington is five clear of South African Retief Goosen, the man he trails by £34,000 in the race to be Europe's leading money-winner this season.
"I would not say I am buzzing with confidence," he admitted.

"My timing was all out on the back nine, but those two putts were very timely. They made the round, to be honest.

"I'm not sure whether rest or practise is the best thing to do now, but I'm going out there with a great chance to win." Bureau Report
