Jammu, Sept 30: Jammu and Kashmir revenue and rehabilitation minister Choudhary Mohammad Hussain today died after a prolonged illness. Hussain, 73, a prominent Gujjar leader, had been suffering from lung cancer and was admitted to a hospital here.
After his condition deteriorated, he was airlifted to Rajouri and was being taken to his native village Taralla, when he breathed his last, official sources said.
He is survived by wife, three sons and three daughters.

Hussain came into active politics in 1966 quitting as a block development officer. He was first elected to the assembly as a congress MLA from Darhal in Rajouri district in 1967.
He again represented the constituency in 1987 and 1996 and was this year inducted into the council of ministers as a minister of state by Chief Minister Farroq Abdullah.


Hussain recently resigned after NC did not nominate his son Ali Choudhary from Darhal constituency. However, his resignation was not accepted by the chief minister.
His body will be laid to rest at Taralla tomorrow.
