Gandhinagar, Mar 07: A total of 379 cases of drug trafficking were registered in Gujarat in last three years and 9571 kgs of narcotics valued at Rs 56 crore in the international market was seized, the state assembly was informed here today. Replying to an attention notice moved by Dhirubhai Gajera (BJP), Minister of State for Home Amit Shah said "566 persons have been arrested so far in 379 cases".
The state government was aware of Pakistan's attempt to perpetrate "proxy war" through narco-terrorism and the usage of the income generated through it for unleashing terrorism in India, he added.
Referring to the recent haul of brown sugar valued at Rs 24 crore from Surat as the biggest haul, he said nine persons have been arrested in this connection. Shah said an anti-terrorist squad and the state CID (crime) have been entrusted with the job of investigating into the case.
Replying to a supplementary question, the minister said, "One of the accused was affiliated to Ajmer Youth Congress in the past and had served as Qadim (servant) at the famous Dargah there".
The state intelligence agencies and concerned department were co-ordinating with central agencies to expose such international rackets to smuggle narcotics into the country, he added. Bureau Report
