Chennai, July 22: Two-wheeler major, TVS Motor Company (TVS-M) has reported 6% rise in top line at Rs 671 crore and a 20% rise in net profit at Rs 32.08 crore in the first quarter ending June 30,2003. The company has announced that it will launch an all-new motorcycle TVS Centra and an upgraded 125 cc version of its winning mascot, Victor. These two motorcycles will be launched in September and rolled out across the country in October this year.

From now on, TVS-M will have four new launches every year as against once every two years in the past, a dramatic improvement in new product development. It has already launched an upgraded TVS Fiero and a 4-stroke Scooty Pep this year.
“By April 2004, more than 70% of the volume will come from brand new vehicles designed and developed by us since separation (from Suzuki). Already, we have achieved that in value terms,” Venu Srinivasan, chairman and managing director said.
Addressing a press conference, Srinivasan said the `Centra’ will be an 100 cc, 4-stroke, 100 kmpl motorcycle. “Its price will be at the centre of the motorcycle market. And we expect to generate sales of 20,000 units of Centra by January next,” he said. The development cost of Centra has been placed at Rs 100 crore. Bureau Report
