Muscat, Jan 07: A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) forum on tourism, to be held in Kuwait next week, will give a tangible push to furthering tourism in the Gulf region, Oman's Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Mehsen Alblooshi has said. Oman would present a work paper to the forum on the country's experiences in attracting local and foreign tourists and in providing the underpining for a thriving tourist industry, he said.
The minister said he was pleased that GCC states were according great importance to the field of tourism with emphasis on attracting foreign tourists to the region.
Oman was paying great attention to the role which the private sector could assume in furthering plans to encourage the tourism industry in the country, he said.
future plans in Oman were focussing on elevating the revenues from tourism to three per cent from the current one per cent of the GDP. Bureau Report
