Ahmedabad, Jan 01: National Security Guard commando critically injured during the Akshardham operation is still in coma and surviving on artificial respiration, doctors at the civil hospital said here today.

Surjan Singh Bhandari, who was recently awarded for his bravery by Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, has been in a critical condition since September 25 inspite of being operated by several military and civil surgeons. There is no improvement or deterioration in the blood pressure or overall condition of Singh. He is still critical and in coma, said a doctor attending on him.

The valiant commando's aged mother Surishi Devi visited him recently with a hope that some miracle would bring the Singh back to consciousness. Singh was a member of the NSG team that was air-dashed to tackle the terrorists holed up at Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar on September 24.

At least 31 persons, including an NSG commando, and two state reserve police commandos, were killed in the attack by two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants. Bureau Report
