New Delhi, July 25: The government has given clearance to the Rs 624 crore phase II of Yamuna Action Plan to clean the highly polluted two km stretch of the river along Delhi. The clearance was given by the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpyee, official spokesman said last night.
The Japanese Bank for International Cooperation has committed an assistance of Rs 530 crore for the project, which is to be implemented on cost sharing basis on the ratio of 85:15 between the Centre, and governments of Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The share of government of India is Rs 530 crore which will be fully reimbursable by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation, he said adding the share for state governments would be Rs 94 crore. In Delhi, a 135 million litre per day (MLD) capacity sewage treatment plant would be constructed at Okhla and the 325 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant at Keshopur would be upgraded, the official spokesman said.
The main works in UP include augmentation of the sewerage and sewage treatment plant in Agra while in Haryana the sewerage plant will be upgraded to meet the shortfall.
The project would be implemented by the Public Health engineering department of Haryana, Delhi Jal Board and UP Jal Nigam, he said.
The project to sanitise the river would be completed by 2008 and would be beneficial to the people for the three states, he said. Bureau Report
