New Delhi, July 24: Government today told the Rajya Sabha that no details were available on the 1.5 billion dollar military assistance promised by the United States to Pakistan recently. Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said out of the total three billion dollars package announced after Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's talks with President George Bush, as much as 1.5 billion dollars were in the form of military assistance.
The assistance to be applicable from October 1, 2004, will be subject to Pakistan meeting three criteria, he said adding the US legislature will debate it and decide on it. Sinha told Murli Deora (Cong) that details of this US military assistance to Pakistan are not available.
In reply to another query raised by the member, sInha said Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his recent visit to France to attend the enlarged G-8 summit emphasised concerns of developing countries in certain areas. Bureau Report
