Chennai, Dec 14: The Centre today offered all help to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the renewed hunt for forest brigand Veerappan in the wake of the killing of hostage and former minister H Nagappa even as the police chiefs of the two states held a strategy session to improve coordination and operational efficiency.

Union Home Secretary N Gopalasamy today held high-level consultations with Tamil Nadu Home Secretary Syed Munir Hoda and Director-General of Police B P Nailwal. The meeting was attended by ADGP( Law and Order) Natarajan and ADGP( Intelligence) Venkatakrishnan. Talking to reporters later, Gopalasamy said the hunt for Veerappan primarily concerned the two states, but the Centre was willing to consider extending whatever help that was required.
Karnataka DGP T Madiyal and Security Adviser T Srinivasulu, who flew in from Bangalore, had a separate meeting this afternoon with DGP Nailwal.
Talking to reporters later, the two DGPs said they discussed strategy to capture Veerappan with focus on improving the coordination between the Special Task Forces of the two states and their operational efficiency.
Srinivasulu denied reports about the recovery of another body in the Chengadi forests in Kollegal where Nagappa was found dead. Unconfirmed reports had said the second victim had been identified as Alexander, a police informer, thus giving credence to Veerappan’s claim that Nagappa was killed in an encounter between his gang and the Tamil Nadu STF.
“We have not implicated anyone” in the killing of Nagappa, Srinivasulu said and added investigation was still on into various aspects, including the type of weapon from which the fatal bullet that killed Nagappa was fired.

This was the first meeting between the police chiefs of the two states since the recovery of Nagappa’s body a week ago. Srinivasulu has already held talks with Tamil Nadu STF chief Walter Dawaram and AGGP Nataraj at the Sathyamangalam and Mettur STF camps in the last few days and one of the decisions taken, apart from improving intelligence sharing, was to set up mobile STF camps, and tighten vigil on the Kerala border of the Sathyamangalam forest range.
