There is a strong interest from both sides but a formal meeting is yet to take place, said the Hollywood Reporter.

Goddard was previously tapped to helm Sony's planned Spider-Man spinoff film, Sinister Six, but the studio is currently focusing on relaunching the troubled franchise.

Sony Pictures has partnered with Disney-owned Marvel Studios to bring a new version of the Spider-Man character to life. As part of the revamp, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film.

The new Spider-Man film will start a new series and studio is looking for a new lead actor to replace Andrew Garfield, who played the web-slinging hero in the last two films.
