Produced by Kevin Feige, the film stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, the prince of the African country of Wakanda, who must take over the charge after his father's murder, reported Variety.

Writer Joe Robert Cole is penning the script.

This is the second time the studio has approached the "Creed" director for helming a project.

However, during his first call Coogler, 29, didn't feel that was the right fit for him and returned to finish post-production on "Creed."

In the past Marvel also considered director Ava DuVernay and F Gary Gray for the job.

"Black Panther" will hit the theaters on July 6, 2018.
