New Delhi: Today marks the holy occasion of 'Guru Nanak Jayanti' that celebrates the birth of the first Sikh guru - Guru Nanak.

On the sacred festival, famous Punjabi Singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh has dedicated a song to Guru Nanak's glory, titled 'Dhan Guru Nanak' and it'll surely make this 'Gurpurab' a grand one!



The Sikh community celebrates this auspicious festival with great zeal across the globe. The day marks the culmination of the Prabhat Pheris (early morning processions) that start from the Gurudwaras, cover the nearby areas and then back to the Gurudwara chanting shabads (hymns). People visit Gurudwara (place of worship of the Sikhs) to offer their prayers to the Almighty.


Though the Sikh community forms nearly 2 % of the Indian population, yet it has contributed in a major way to the economy. The community forms a special 'Sikh Regiment' also addressed as '19 battalion strong' in the Indian Army.
