Karachi, Mar 14: A suspected Islamic militant arrested in the southern port city of Karachi has claimed involvement in a number of terrorist strikes and has warned of more attacks, specifically targeting police, a police official said today. Mohammed Farhan, 28, also known as dada, was detained Tuesday, but the arrest was not initially made public.
According to police, Farhan said he was a member of the outlawed Sunni militant group, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, suspected of violent attacks against minority Shiite Muslims and foreigners. Farhan is also believed to be closely associated with Asif Ramzi, killed last December while trying to make a bomb.
Ramzi is suspected to have been involved in last year's killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Farhan allegedly confessed to involvement in parcel bombs that went off last November at government offices and police stations. At least two policemen were injured in those bombings. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow and has been charged by police with possessing an illegal weapon.
