New Delhi, Feb 26: The Communist Party of India today released the first list of 16 candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections. Kerala topped the list with four candidates contesting from the state, followed by West Bengal (three candidates), Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh (two candidates each) and Punjab, Jharkhand, Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh (one candidate each).
The central secretariat of CPI held a meeting here today where it released the list. It decided to announce the second list of candidates after finalizing negotiations in some states. In some states the party would contest the election for additional seats.
In Kerala, Mr P K Vasudevan Nair has been fielded from Thiruvananthapuram, Mr C K Chandrappan from Thrissur, Mr Chengara Surendran from Adoor and Mr P P Seneer from Ponnani. In West Bengal, Mr Ajoy Chakraborty will contest the election from Bashirhat constituency, Mr Prabodh Panda from Midnapur and Mr Gurudas Dasgupta from Panskura constituency.
In Tamil Nadu, Mr K Subbarayan and Mr M Appadurai have been fielded from Coimbatore and Tenkasi (SC) respectively while Mr Atul Kumar Anjaan has been put up from Ghosi and Mr Rambadan Yadav from Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh.
Ms Kaushalya Bhaura has been fielded from Bhatinda (SC)- Punjab, Mr Bhubaneswar Prasad Mehta from Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), Mr Hrupad Borgohain from Jorhat (Assam), Mr Bhupal Das Panikka from Shahdol (ST)- Madhya Pradesh and Mr Ramnath Sarfe from Bastar (ST)- Chattisgarh.
