Siliguri, Dec 06: Dabur will set up a Rs 18 crore fruit-processing unit at Fatapukur, in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, District Magistrate A Subbaiah said. Subbaiah told reporters today that Dabur management in a meeting with the district authorities had finalised the project and prepared a blue print for the unit yesterday.
Maintaining that construction work for the project would start by first week of January, 2004, Subbaiah said that the project would attach maximum importance in processing of pineapples.
At least six thousand pine-apple growers would be benefitted once pine-apple processing started. Later, he said, Dabur would gradually go for processing of mango, guava, linchi and tomato also.
The company would market the processed pine-apple under the well-known banner of Real fruit-juice and required machinery for the project would be bought from an Italian company soonest, Subbaiah said quoting Dabur officials.
He further said that the district administration would extend all possible help to Dabur and ensure that the company did not face any 'big problem' to implement the dream project.
