New Delhi, Nov 30: Nearly 300 people have been arrested for possessing unlicenced arms and illegal trade of liquor since the announcement of Delhi Assembly elections on October 06, Chief Electoral Officer Arun Goyal said.
Addressing a press conference here, Goyal said 105 persons were arrested for violating the model code of conduct by keeping unlicenced arms in 75 cases booked against them.
He said 139 unlicenced weapons had been seized, while 1,636 licenced arms were impounded and cancelled during the period.
In the 181 excise-related cases, 189 persons were arrested and 415 boxes of liquor seized from them. The boxes contained 37 cans, 3,171 bottles, 455 halfs and 7,977 quarters.
During the electioneering period, 46 cases were registered in connection with the illegal use of loud speakers and motor vehicles. In these cases, 74 vehicles and 20 loud speakers were impounded, Goyal said.
