Srinagar, Feb 28: Faced with severe criticism over the firing incident at Bandipora where one youth was killed, Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday transferred Station House Officer (SHO) of Bandipora police station in a bid to cool tempers of residents of the north Kashmir township. SHO Manzoor Ahmad has been shifted to Anantnag district in South Kashmir following Thursday's firing incident.
Ahmad has been replaced by Suhail Reshi who was rushed to the tension-ridden town from his previous posting as SHO Maharajgunj in downtown city, sources said.
However, Inspector General of police, Kashmir, K Rajindra kumar denied that the transfers had anything to do with the firing incident.
Describing the transfer as a routine matter, the IG said Ahmad had been transferred on an Election Commission directive as Baramulla is his home town.
