Aligarh, Nov 08: Curfew relaxation in the old city area was today abruptly curtailed after Bajrang Dal and VHP acitivists tried to stage a protest demonstration. Authorities were forced to re-impose curfew at three pm curtailing the relaxation period after Bajrang Dal and VHP workers tried to hold protest demonstration at railway road, the city's main shopping centre, official sources said.
Although no incident of fresh violence has been reported, the air remained thick with rumors since morning, they said.
Earlier in the morning, shops reopened in all areas barring Kanwari Ganj market where shopkeepers observed a bandh in response to a protest call given by the VHP.
The Bajrang Dal and VHP have demanded immediate release of some local BJP leaders, arrested in connection with the communal clashes which had left one person dead and at-least a dozen injured on Saturday.
