Ranchi, June 11: Activists of the outlawed Naxalite outfit MCC targetted Railway property, blowing up a Railway station and setting fire to an electric engine in separate incidents today on the second day of their 48-hour Jharkhand bandh called in protest against alleged police atrocities and operations against them.
Additional Director-General of Police J B Mohapatra said that the ultras blasted the tracks at Harubeda station on the Muri Barkakana section in Ranchi Division disrupting train movement.
Although no one was injured, the blast destroyed the east and west cabins and damaged about a metre of railway track.
In another incident, Naxals set fire to the engine of a goods train at Bendi in Latehar district, Mohapatra said.
In Bokaro, he said, a group of extremists reached Dhania Railway Station assaulted the station master and forced him out of his chamber before locking it up. They also laid out blocks on the rail tracks.
Most of the trains were running late due to these incidents, Mohapatra said and added important trains were being escorted out of the state.
Yesterday, the ultras made abortive attacks on Barlanga Railway Station and Rai Railway Station in Ranchi district.
The bandh affected despatch work at CCL, sources said adding it had not affected production of coal. Production and despatch work was normal at BCCL, a Dhanbad report said.
Long distance bus services, particularly towards Ranchi, Chaibasa and Jamshedpur, have been affected.
