Lucknow, Sept 10: After ordering a stay on all new appointments, promotions and land allotments made by the Mayawati government in several areas, including Noida and Greater Noida, the Mulayam Singh government was now reviewing creation and re-christening of some of the new districts by the former Chief Minister during her three tenures, highly placed sources said here. The new government would review the decision to create new districts and their re-christening during the Mayawati regime, the sources said.

The number of such new districts were 16, sources said adding if the government decided to rescind the decisions, it would entail a saving of Rs 2000 crore.

However, the sources said, that any decision in this regard could only be taken by the new cabinet. The decision to review was part of the government's efforts to curb expenditure as the state was facing an acute financial crunch, they said.

The government has already ordered stopping of construction of new building for the newly created Mahamaya Nagar district besides hinting at reviewing its rechristening, sources said.

Sources also said that the government has sought notings from the administration regarding creation of new districts. Several public representatives had urged Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav to review the decision to create new districts and their rechristening, the sources said.
